05 Before Heaven BaGua
There are two ways to arrange these eight trigrams, and understanding the difference is key. The Before Heaven Bagua, attributed to the legendary figure Fu Xi, represents the universe in its ideal, original state — before time, before motion, before change.
Imagine a perfectly balanced system where every force has its exact opposite mirrored across the center: Heaven (☰ ) sits at the top (South), Earth (☷ ) at the bottom (North), Fire (☲ ) on the left (East) and Water (☵ ) on the right (West), with Thunder (☳ ), Wind (☴ ), Mountain (☶ ), and Lake (☱) filling the diagonals in perfect symmetry.
It's like a blueprint or a schematic diagram of cosmic harmony — everything is in balance, nothing is in conflict. Think of it as the "factory default settings" of the universe.
In addition, the Before Heaven number flow can be summarized as an infinity-shaped (∞) pattern; opposite-palace numbers always sum to 9, and 9 is an odd number, which is Yang in traditional numerology.
